China and its complicated situation

In the last decade, China has experimented important changes regarding education, Sanitary systems or even contamination . However, the increase of population and the critical polical situation, slowed down all these processes. As a consequence of it, Chinese people seem that they live in 15th century more than in 21th.

Ciudad Juárez,a city without Law.

In Ciudad Juárez there is no Law that creates Justice, no Law that punishes”

This sentence, which may sound like dialogue from a movie, is nowadays a sad reality. The worst part of it is that it was said by a drug dealer (Carla Ramírez Fernando) from  Ciudad Juárez (México).

Beyond being the eighth largest city in Mexico, Ciudad Juárez has been a “trend” in media (both national and international) by the number of deaths, most of them rough, related to drug cartels.

This city, which  borders with the United States, is a focal point for the passage of narcotics between the USA and Mexico. As a consequence of this, in its neighborhoods have settled the most dangerous bands related to the drug trafficking world, the so-called cartels , which had continuous battles -in the strict sense of the word- leaving behind tens or even hundreds of totally innocent dead people .
While public institutions are making a superhuman effort to reduce violence, and ultimately the death toll, there is still much work to do
Only in 2012,  1974 people died, data  that may seem scandalous, but   comparing it to the number of deaths in 2010 -3115 - is a relief.

As it can be expected, this unpleasant situation adversely affects the daily lives of the citizens of this town in northern district of Chihuahua. Since 2009, as stated by the Mexican newspaper "La Tercera",people from Ciudad Juárez  have had to close a 40% of bars and restaurants in the city (between 300 and 4,000). The causes of this decline which not only affect the hospitality industry, but also education, tourism and especially population rates are easily  recognizable: looting, kidnapping and extortion by the cartels.
Every death, every kidnap  ,
contains a personal story. Stories which even involve minors , as in the case of the teenager Gloria Rivas Martínez

Teenagers are not spared

When Gloria Rivas Martinez disappeared on October 26, 2002, she only was 16 years old. As it happens in most of the disappearances of women in Ciudad Juarez, her body was found in a field  outside the city, with obvious signs of violence. Parallel to this is the disappearance, it happened the disappearance of María Isabel Mejía Sapien, which occurred just 3 months after the first.
Both worked in the same business, "The Star", although in different branches. This business has been repeatedly investigated for possible involvement with the cartels. On these two cases ,it have run many rumors, one of the most famous, and which ended in the pages of the local newspaper "El Norte" was that Rivas was kidnapped and held for several days in one of the "headquarters" of cartels, more specifically in the west part of Ciudad Juarez.

Cases like these happen every day. The drug problem is very complex, and more in South America, where it is fully expanded. International community should come together with national, to  eradicate this problem, regardless of the costs that may ensue. More than 1000 deaths per year are a drama, and more in recent times.
